Balanced Heart Healing Center grew out of its founder’s awareness that there are abundant healthcare resources in the United States, but the mechanisms by which they are applied and distributed results in inadequate care for too many.  Believing that God was sending her the people she could help and that it was her responsibility to help them, Dr. Katie McCorkle has treated people unconditionally (regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay) since opening her private psychology practice in 1997.

In April 2006, Balanced Heart Healing Center was conceived in Dr. Katie’s heart during a lunch meeting with a former student in one of her “Birth Your Dream” classes.  The woman had called to say that she had been on an amazing journey since the class and had a burning desire to give back, but didn’t know how to get started.  She asked if she could take Dr. Katie to lunch to “pick her brain”.  During that lunch conversation, Dr. Katie realized that it was incumbent upon her to provide a place and a support structure for this woman, and others like her, to give back what it is in their heart to share.

Because of her belief that all people deserve affordable access to integrative health care, and her awareness that many health care providers have gifts they are willing to share freely with others, she wanted to expand her practice to include people in various disciplines.  Assisted by the volunteer services of early supporters, Balanced Heart Healing Center incorporated as a nonprofit corporation in the Commonwealth of PA on Aug. 26, 2006, and received its 501(c)(3) designation from the IRS on April 11, 2008.

In 2009, Balanced Heart Healing Center began collaborating with the graduate program in Healthcare Policy and Management at Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz School.  Since that time, Balanced Heart Healing Center has offered their students opportunities to make a difference in the way healthcare is delivered as they complete requirements for their degree.  Some of the program’s graduates have remained committed volunteers following graduation.

We continue to grow through the efforts of volunteers as we raise funds to establish a shared clinic space.  Your purchase of Dr. Katie’s book and classes supports that effort.
